James Liston Emergency Accommodation

James Liston Emergency Accommodation provides emergency housing for up to 3 months to men and women who are currently or at risk of experiencing homelessness. Along with supplying safe, clean accommodation and two meals per day, James Liston help their guests find more permanent housing in the long-term. You’ll need to get a referral from Lifewise or Auckland City Mission to secure your spot.

VisionWest Community Housing provides short term emergency accommodation (up to 3 months), and long-term (12 months) supported rental housing in West Auckland. Their aim is to provide safe, healthy, affordable, quality rental housing for low-income families. These homes are for families willing to work with their housing social worker to create lasting positive change in their lives.

Hindu Niwas

Hindu Niwas is a homely, welcoming place for anyone in need of emergency accommodation regardless of age, background, or economic status. Hindu Niwas work with providers in the social service and health sectors to support guests during their stay. Their vision is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – The World is One Big Family”.


  • Single room: Furnished (TV, bed with linen and blanket, couch, fridge) $200.00 per week (single occupancy)
  • Double room: Furnished (TV, double bed with linen and blanket, couch, fridge) $250.00 per week (double occupancy)
  • Family room: Furnished (TV, beds with linen and blankets, couch, fridge) $300 per week, Day use $50.00 per day

*Hindu Niwas charge $10.00 per person per night for extra visitors.

Motel stay

Locations around auckland

If you’ve tried everything and had no luck with other emergency housing providers, The Ministry of Social Development may pay for you to stay in a hostel or motel for up to 7 days*. You will need to show Work and Income that you have tried other emergency accommodation providers and have a written quote from the motel.

*Remember, this is only for 7 days. If you stay longer, you will have to pay WINZ back for every extra night at standard motel rates.
