In November 2016, Splice took a Zoom recorder onto Auckland streets and recorded interviews with buskers, workers, poets and streeties to give us their perspective of living in the city. The completed audio journey has been produced for buskers to sell on the street during 2017; and we are preparing for Street Wisdom vol 2 to be released in April 2017.
There are many people in our city centre who have experiences of living in Auckland city (whether being in apartments and other dwellings, to living on the street or in temporary situations) and have important perspectives to share about the current state of the city and what could be done to improve the sense of community there. Many of these people don’t currently have a voice – but they do have important stories to tell and perspectives to offer. In some instances these people need the opportunity to express themselves, in order that we can attain a deeper understanding of their lives and the issues that concern them. In some instances they are isolated, or have mental health issues that we can find a fuller understanding of, by allowing them a forum to speak. We wanted to record and learn from their stories, and compile them into a cd format for distribution. And we have – welcome to “Street Wisdom”!!!
The core aim is to form a greater sense of connection in Auckland’s city centre, celebrating the vibrancy and diversity of this cultural hub.
